Introducing Gene Rivers – an eccentric and larger than life piano man making music in the old ways, while learning about how it’s made today. Raised in Dubbo, NSW, Rivers comes from classical roots and grew up fascinated by how the piano can be used in different ways to form different sounds, from smooth jazz, through to banging pop ballads. Now finding himself in the heart of Sydney, Rivers is embarking on his self-produced learning project, wanting to push the music from way back when, into current day and teach people to slow down and enjoy the raw sounds of music again, in a lighthearted way. Heavily influenced by possibly the most versatile taste in music, Rivers draws inspiration from the 70’s and 80’s era of Earth Wind Fire and Billy Joel, to more current pop sounds of Charlie Puth, mixed in with Chicago for a hit of music theatre and Thirsty Merc for a touch of Australian pop rock.
