Generic formed in September 2000 and developed a platform blending acoustic and effects-driven sounds to produce their music. They played diverse original music with a dynamic blend of rock, funk, folk, jazz, swampy blues, trip-hop and even some ‘evil clown music’. Generic played shows alongside some other Aussie bands of note, including George, Coda, Dropping Honey, Pancake Day and The Monstrous Blues. After launching their debut EP ‘No Frills’ to a packed house in september 2002, they went on to record 7 newer tracks in 2003 which were eventually released on their ‘Divorce Album’. Generic’s debut album showcased their growth as a rock band. Their diverse stylistic influences and their commitment to anti-formulaic writing made Generic a musical experience unlike any other. “Generic are what they are in the sense that they can’t really be forced into any particular categories, they’re just a band that puts out some really sweet sounds” -Tertangala Journal, September Edition, 2001.
