Graham Panther is best known as a member of NZ’s globe-trotting The Ruby Suns. He’s just joined the mass kiwi emigration to Australia, with a new solo record to boot. First single Promises is a song about life, love, and the creeping collective terror of climate change. Inspired by the age of austerity, Graham has downsized, embracing the cold hard efficiencies of going solo. There’s still some jobs for the boys though of course: John Parker (The Brunettes) drumming and Ed Castelow (Dictaphone Blues) producing. Somehow this bare bones outfit delivers the most muscular, fuzz-rock fueled emanation of Panther’s songs yet, mixing the usual kiwi ‘studio boudoir’ approach with the high tech wizardry of Auckland’s The Lab - partially subsidized with NZ on Air funding. (They still give musicians money! Just to capture their thoughts, in a song! Take that austerity... Wait no, don’t take it.)
