Distrosub

In the early 1970s a young surfer chased the sun and the waves, following dreams and the freedom of the coastal life. Along the way, GS Ward would strum a guitar and write moody and evocative songs with a streak of darkness comparable to artists such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Richard Clapton and Taj Mahal. Though music has been an intermittent past-time over the years, Ward has been making up for lost time in the 2020s with an intensive recording schedule that has seen the Cronulla NSW based songwriter record and release an EP The Dark Room and subsequent standalone singles 'Industrial Waste', 'Cronulla St' and 'Honey'. Late last year Ward gave us a preview of his debut solo album with the single 'The Thunderbird' and now he proudly announces the new album Incommunicado (June 14th, 2024). Musically it's roots music where Ward's songs finds their shape and style. Folk rock, country, darker electric blues and even more upbeat melodic rock material - all enhanced by the raft of guests that Ward and producer Marc Scully have invited into the studio to add their mercurial touches on violin, harmonica, guitar and more. All of the songs on the album were written, across a number of decades, in the southern suburbs of Sydney (Caringbah and Cronulla) and as a result you get a real sense of the arc of a life well-lived, on the coastal fringe of NSW. Relationships, the ocean, kids, family and observations on the world revolving around GS Ward.
