If you want to conjure up a sonic picture of Guava, imagine Dave Matthews Band blended with Vampire Weekend. The sound is infectious, robust, joyful and spicy. Catchy melodies and driving beats inspire broad audiences to watch, listen and dance. Drawing from a diverse range of influences, the special quality about Guava is the distinct presence of musical elements from around the world. Latin energy, African rhythms, Middle-Eastern modes and distinctive melodies are fused with Western concepts of contemporary rock, jazz and folk styles, and original, thoughtful lyrics. Guava is made up of four bright musicians playing the acoustic guitar, saxophone, bass and drums. Three of Guava’s members; Tim Parsons (drums), Laura Corney (sax) and Chris Stewart (guitar, lead vocal) have studied their respective instruments at a tertiary level, while Ellis Lum Mow brings an instinctively natural talent to the bass.
