Desert Pea Media and Cootamundra High School are proud to present Gudhamangdhuray Gang – “We Still Belong”, a powerful new music and film release created in collaboration with the community of Cootamundra in the Riverina District on the South West Slopes of NSW — on Wiradjuri Country. “Gudhamangdhuray” — the Wiradjuri word for the Cootamundra area — grounds this project in place, identity and cultural strength. The release features the original single “We Still Belong” alongside an official music video filmed on Country — an outcome of a collaborative storytelling project with Desert Pea Media (a NSW-based NFP) and the Cootamundra Indigenous Community - a cinematic expression of pride, resilience and collective identity. This community-led creative process focused on an intensive five-day creative project facilitated by Desert Pea Media at Cootamundra High School. Over the course of the week, young people, Elders, Knowledge Holders, school staff and community members contributed to an intergenerational yarn exploring history, culture, identity, wellbeing and hope for the future.
