Gugs Ranye (Gugs for short, from Gugga) is an independent artist who writes, produces, mixes, and performs his own music. Gugga, meaning “uncle” in Nyikina, reflects his cultural roots. Hailing from Derby in the northwest of Australia, Gugs’ sound spans from backstreet boom bap to country folklore, with grainy, conscious rap that carries meaning and purpose. He aims to inspire young people in his hometown to pursue music as a form of creative expression and to help put Derby, also known as “Blood City” on the map.
