Gymnastics In The Seventies deliver an infectious indie pop energy, influenced by the warmth of mid-70s new wave and Australian surf rock. As many bands do, Fraser, Dan, Dom and Yas came together in 2015 through high-school friendships and share-house connections. A few jams later, the bond was cemented and their debut gig to school mates at the local dive bar in Geelong kicked it all off. In the year that followed, they went from backyards to sharing the stage with the likes of Hockey Dad, North East Party House and Mental As Anything. Now with two releases under their belt, they have garnered a dedicated local following, developing “a trademark sound characterised by angular guitar riffs and captivating melodic hooks” (Triple J Unearthed). After a long hiatus finishing degrees, travelling, recording and gigging with other projects, Gymies are back in business with new sounds, new personnel, new heartbreak, new loves and new flavours to savour.
