Hale formed mid-2015 out of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Combining buzzsaw guitar pop with raspy and biting vocal, singer Joe has a lot on his mind... At 16, Joe’s dream of a pro surfing career came to halt after a major accident left him out of the water for almost a year. He recovered by way of time, and songwriting using a beat up guitar and developing his distinctive voice. After the lengthy recovery, Joe, son of two ministers, packed a bag and said guitar and set off, journeying the globe with eyes wide open. One of these expeditions landed him in Northern Uganda where he helped in an orphanage packed with child soldiers, child mothers and displaced families from a war torn area - a deep experience which created a theme that runs through Joe’s life and has cemented itself in his approach to music.
