Halfbeak is the lo-fi, art-pop, industrial, electronica and modern classical stylings of Tim Gum (me!) I've been creating music in some form or other since 1997. Halfbeak's warped world of crazy is inspired as much by visual art and literature as music. Halfbeak music is playful and curious. Explorations of sounds and rhythm and the ideas that follow, while inevitably the grand design unveils. New LP ‘In The Tongue’, the 30th unofficial Halfbeak LP, is as good a place as any to start for the uninitiated. Blankets of piano lines and rhythms, time-warped and desecrated, entice the listener into a candle-lit sound-world where musical tropes evaporate. The title is a nod to Erik Satie, who oft’ delighted in commanding his pianists to play ‘on the tongue’. Here we get to the meat of the matter...
