Helen Ryder is an Australian singer-songwriter who has toured nationally, performed at the ARIA Awards with The Whitlams, and has previously performed at the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival with Tina Harrod, the Americana festival Out On The Weekend, opened for Vika & Linda Bull, Russell Morris and The Badloves, and currently plays locally at venues in her hometown of Melbourne. In 2015, Helen released her debut album, Someday Love receiving airplay on ABC Radio National, RRR FM, PBS FM and 2SER FM, followed by a standalone single in 2017, covering Neil Young’s 1970 track Birds. An exquisitely gifted vocalist and storyteller, Helen’s knack for creating moving and immersive music has only heightened on her upcoming album release, Love Over Hate due out in late 2025. A follow up to her lauded 2015 debut album, Someday Love, Love Over Hate finds Helen a decade later in her most polished and assured form to date. However, the journey to release for Love Over Hate was not without its own unique hurdles along the way. Pausing the work on album #2 for 18 months following a car accident, and the pandemic not long after, Love Over Hate was ultimately crafted by Helen amid periods of recovery and isolation between 2020 through to 2024. And while its creation may have been surrounded by challenging and uncertain circumstances, the result ultimately channels the range of the human experience, and Helen’s own resilience and reflection into 11 tracks that shine with authenticity, craftsmanship and delivery. PRAISE FOR 2015 DEBUT ALBUM SOMEDAY LOVE: “Someday Love is a beautiful selection of songs interpreted with great feeling and backed by some of Australia’s finest musicians.” - Brian Wise, Off The Record / RRR. “Helen Ryder’s debut album is way overdue. To me, it sounds like the soundtrack to a romantic movie: Old Hollywood – romantic, wistful and moving. The voice is exquisite and the playing is beautiful.” - Jeff Jenkins, The Music /ABC radio. "Love the album, congratulations." - Paul Gough, The Inside Sleeve / ABC Radio National
