Hell Herons is an Australian spokenword+music collective featuring award-winning poets Melinda Smith (winner of the Prime Minister's Prize for Poetry), Stuart Barnes (winner of the Thomas Shapcott Prize), CJ Bowerbird (winner of the Australian Poetry Slam), and Nigel Featherstone (shortlisted in the Queensland Literary Awards and former ACT Artist of the Year). Musically, Hell Herons are inspired by M83, Arvo Pärt, My Bloody Valentine, and Ólafur Arnalds. We aim to play and take risks - we're not afraid of beats, noise and field recordings - but we also like to be warm and accessible. Our debut album is The Wreck Event, released in June 2024.
