After the cult success of 2021 gabba/happy hardcore scorchers Bass Is Hardcore and Rhythm of the Beat, honestfrank goes bigger again with hyperdonk anthem, Melody Kong. Coming in at a day-ruining 195 bpm, Melody Kong’s main chorus instrument is a sampled Melody Pop: a kind of trombone Chupa Chup and a long-time source of fascination for honestfrank, who himself is a trombonist. The track also references Super Nintendo’s hit game Donkey Kong Country, another foundational influence for Melbourne’s king of donk. “Big DK came over, unwrapped a fresh Melody Pop and just started cutting SICK,” shares honestfrank of the track. “I happened to have a microphone on hand so I recorded it, slapped a phat as fuck donk on it, and the rest was history.”
