Iain T. McKelvey & The Midnight Tangos are a steamboat chugging purposefully down the Cooks River, dodging discarded bikes and semi-submerged shopping trolleys, picking up whomever thinks they can handle the revelry along the way. Blending elements of folk, blues, country and classic rock with a penchant for over-thinking, they can move your feet and soften blow of the existential horror of existence. Having released numerous tracks in the last few years as a solo endeavour, Iain T. McKelvey has showcased himself as an artist with a desire to explore and build something that was uniquely his own. Notably the release of the achingly beautiful ‘Dear Family’. Iain T. McKelvey is a storyteller, The Midnight Tangos are an extension of that story, helping shape the ideas and get them on tape. The physical and sonic expansion. After kicking ass with their lead single 'Carrington Road', Iain T. McKelvey & The Midnight Tangos deliver their second delicious offering. 'Raise Your Wine' is defiant in it's melancholy - an ode to accepting mistakes, embracing your friends, revelling in the good times, and sharing a drink with the ones who were there through it all. Recorded by Ben Moore (Tim Rogers, Sarah Blasko, Le Pie, Julia Why) during a week-long stint at Harvest Recordings in Marrickville, 'Raise Your Wine' is the second single off an EP due late 2021, and features backing vocals by fellow Evening Records artists Caitlin Harnett, and piano by Carl Manwarring (River Dreams). The result is an enveloping, lush and warm experience, best enjoyed with a glass of your favourite vino. Iain T. McKelvey & The Midnight Tangos are part classic, part modern, all time. Make sure you’re at the jetty waiting to enjoy the ride.
