Creator of ‘electro-pop’, 24-year-old funky Melbournite J-Elle strives to combine addictive, invigorating beats with unique vocals and lyrics that invite question – and her explosive debut single ‘Laced’ is no exception. Listeners are lured into a tantalising world of electricity and sin; seduced by its magnetic beat and evocative lyrics, and left “hands tied, wanting more”. When it comes to lyrics, J-Elle leaves her music open to interpretation. The lyrics of ‘Laced’, she says, are infused with purposeful ambiguity with the aim of being ‘a little fun and cheeky… people can take their own meaning from it.’ Citing fellow Australian artists such as Nicole Millar, Mallrat and Mothika as her contemporary musical influences, you can trust there’s a lot more good stuff we haven’t yet seen from J-Elle.
