For me, music is special. You can look at a painting for hours but the moment you hear a beautiful note it's gone. The best bits rush past you and - sometimes, if you're lucky - they tear your heart out as they go. Music, therefore, comes with its own in-built sense of loss. This perhaps explains its peculiar emotional power over us through the millenia. I like music that evokes something in me, especially if it does it in a way that I've never heard before. The familiar has its own resonance but it's nothing against the shock of a new sound or feeling.
