Jamahl Ryder is an indigenous artist that represents Perth's Hip Hop scene. Influenced by the personal journey of artists such as Tupac, KRS-One and The Game combined with the lyricism of Big Pun, The Notorious B.I.G., Rakim and Eminem, Jamahl has created his own sound and style. From 15, Jamahl started writing his own rap as a way of speaking his mind, laying his thoughts and feelings. Jamahl's first big break came where he elevated his writing and had formed the group Obstrukt. The group performed throughout events such NAIDOC day, Hyde Park Hotel, Survival Day, Ngalang Koorlak and the Too Solid Festival. Since then Jamahl ventured into a solo career which saw him at gigs such as Raise The Roof, Mom’s spaghetti and Lyrical Flavour. Jamahl has recently dropped his debut album, Defy Reality, which is the latest addition of many grand things to come.
