Bloc Party - The Prayer remix: I have received some great feedback about this remix and I thought I should post a little on how it was constructed. I started with the original tracks as my template. I thought about how I could make a 'powerful' song like this even more so. I love the feeling an orchestral arrangment gives to a song so I decided to go down that path. All the strings/piano arrangments I created on my MIDI keyboard, no samples were used. I don't think you could use samples in this kind of song, you really need to start from scratch and make the sounds you want. Theres a middle range orchestral string sound prominent through the majority of the song and to acompany the build up in certain areas I added a double bass piece, and soloing set of violins. For the final chorus, I added the background orchestra, double bass, cello piece and violin piece; aswell as a piano riff that shows up in both choruses. One of the harder parts of the remix was doubling the final chorus.
