‘Trouble Believing’ is the first single from the upcoming Acedia Pt.2 EP. The song was produced and mixed by McGuffie at his studio, ‘Forest Creek’, in Chewton, an hour and half outside of Melbourne. It’s not hard to draw a throughline connection between the craftsmanship displayed on 2023’s Acedia Pt.1, this latest single and McGuffie’s distinct affinity with the great works of early 70’s folk royalty (notably Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell & Neil Young). Pedestrian observations alongside colorful couplets, spoken phrases followed by bursts of melodic divergence; both McGuffie’s songs and production style have the ability to instill anything from an introspective state of calm to a compulsion to sprint up the nearest hill, depending on what you need on the day. When he’s not working on his solo project, James is well-occupied co-writing with and producing for a diverse range of artists, including the likes of Benjamin Trillado, Eliza Hull and Angus Montaigne.
