Joel plays acoustic guitar because he has to--the music demons won't leave him alone if he doesn't. He measures out his soul with the harmonica, sometimes in neat portions, other times in a woeful torrent. He's not much driven by percussion, but playing two instruments at once doesn't leave a lot of room for drums, so he slaps his guitars around and stomps his feet instead. There are things about his world, his country, his religion, that he believes 'simply need to be said,' and whether it is the poetry of lyrics, the soulful hum of strings, or the wail of the harmonica, he determinedly gets it out.
