I’ve long felt that hope is the new rebellion. My back catalogue is quite dark, but I got to a point as a writer where I asked ‘Am I willing to express and share my joy? Am I willing to risk being happy? Am I willing to be vulnerable in a different way?’ For me that’s growth. Be it Zeppelin, Nick Cave, U2, Lady Gaga, Prince, Bowie... watching my idols grow, that metamorphosis, is exhilarating. My new song "Longing Is Not Love" captures that moment of personal and creative growth for me.
