From jamming on lunch breaks in-between treating patients, nineties style alternative rockers ‘Kasem’ have somehow ‘exercised’ their meticulously witty medical minds onto the Australian rock music scene. Physiotherapy colleagues Tom (vocals, guitar) and Jacob (drums) substituted rusty garden tools for their dustier secondary school instruments in a beat-up backyard shed. In close proximity to their sports medicine clinic, their musical smoko became their own ‘therapeutic’ grunge haven. Nicola (bass) soon added her groovy lower frequency fence vibration for the neighbours. Rochelle (vocals, keys) fortuitously auditioned herself into the band with her soothing voice at one of our work Christmas parties to complete the quartet. After an elaborate structural transformation of the corrugated iron shed into a bullet and soundproof studio, Kasem pulled the trigger on their explosive debut single "Million Dollar Man" which was selected on multiple Australian radio stations including 4ZZZ Brisbane, Local Sounds Radio and Radio Adelaide. Mixing generational X sounds with generational Y & Z concerns, Kasem seriously raised the bar with their debut EP “Left to Repair the World” set to launch on 14th of November 2025. The EP’s lyrical inferences towards societal inequality coupled with rich sounding nineties inspired string and percussion provides a sorely missed feeling of rock nostalgia. The band featured in a Gippsland 3BBR-FM broadcast program called “Sounds of the Underground” which featured an unedited live acoustic set of their EP songs with song introductions and a nonchalant interview centred around their music.
