Katalytic’s music is played on the Malletkat and layers are recorded on the RC-50 loop station, played back and stopped and started when required. Lead lines are improvised on the spot. The MPC1000 sampler, Korg 05R/W sound module, Behringer Xenyx 1002FX mixer and the iPad (and various apps) produce and mix the sounds for the Malletkat Pro, which is played by Zaia. Zaia only started playing music in early 2006, when she was introduced to the diatonic marimba by Linsey Pollak. In early 2010 she purchased a Malletkat to increase her music knowledge by playing a chromatic instrument. She has not looked back, loving the versatility of the Malletkat combined with the Roland RC50 loop station. Her musical influences are many and varied, from her mentor Linsey Pollak and her dad Harry Sevenstern, to Gypsy/Klezmer styles, funk, soul and disco (and various in between...). She has finally come out of the back room and jumped into the deep end, by making her music public.
