Hailing from Far North Queensland – Kieran Lancini – was the toast of Australian Country Music after being named Star Maker Winner at the 2002 Tamworth Country Music Festival. It was a pinnacle moment for the young artist who started performing in local talent quests at the tender age of nine. His winner’s single – “A Matter of Time” – was co-written by Lancini, Rod McCormack and Rick Price. Released through ABC/EMI Music – the single hit number 4 on the charts and set the pace for his career. Kieran drove thousands of kilometres during his year as Star Maker taking his music to the people and quickly followed the success of his debut single with another Top 10 smash – “All Because of You” (co-written with Tamara Stewart). Lancini always had the urge to travel and at 26 he embarked on a trip to the UK where he planned to stay for 6 months. As fate had it, he missed his return flight and ended up staying. He admits he thought his music career was a thing of the past. “It wasn’t until I went back for the Star Maker 40th Anniversary show in Tamworth in 2019, that the performer was well and truly awoken in me”, he says. “I was absolutely terrified as it had been years since I was on stage in front of a live audience and band. It was then that I decided to dip my toe back in and get something out there again”. 2020 marks the return of Kieran Lancini with the release of his first single in 18 years. “The Reason” is a new collaboration with his long time friend, Golden Guitar winner, Tamara Stewart. It’s a highly personal song about never giving up hope. “It came from a story my Aunty told me. I found out that my great, great Grand Parents flipped a coin and decided their fate and future back in the 1800’s in Scotland. Heads was Australia and Tails was Canada. Thankfully Heads won and the rest, they say, is history. I like to think I inherited some of that adventurous spirit”. Released on Friday 29th May 2020 (pre-order/pre-save from May 1), “The Reason”, was recorded in Nashville at the famed House of Blues Studios and Fox Den Studios in Sheffield, England. An impressive line up of musicians feature on the track including Australian guitar wunderkind, Jedd Hughes, Eddie Bayers on Drums, Dan Dugmore on Pedal Steel, Lex Price features on bass while Mike Rojas is on keys/piano. Tamara Stewart - who also provides backing vocals - served as the song’s producer.
