KITE PARLOUR started as a creative offshoot of composers Jake Cartwright and Guy Dowsett. They wrote and produced the LP ‘Island Hops’ over two extended sessions, marooned in Cartwright’s studio, in a tiny mountain village in Italy. A synthesis of Cartwright’s sonically intricate layers and reed playing with Dowsett’s wistfully wrought frames and vocals gingerly found its own sound, despite seemingly kaleidoscopic shifts of musical style. Island Hops was released in November 2013. Fred Fontane plays drums on ‘Spoon Fed Fog,’ Talley Mulligan on ‘Head in a Clock’ and Dave Higgins on ‘One Blink’. The album was mastered by Nick Lewis in Brighton. Cartwright and Dowsett first met at music school in Melbourne in the early noughties. After each going his own way they reunited in Europe in 2008. Dowsett was living in Prague, composing for theatre, and Cartwright had since moved to Italy. They worked together creating music for theatre, circus and film, first of all on an artist residency
