Kylie Whitney is an emerging indie artist from Sydney. She merges Organic Indie Folk with ambient soundscapes to accompany her flair for lyrical obliqueness. Her vocal delivery is both pure and damaged at the same time, giving her music an emotional weight reminiscent of Tori Amos, Sarah McLaghlan and Fiona Apple, but with the pop accessability of Fleetwood Mac and Sheryl Crow. Kylie works an engineer/producer at Sydney’s Love Hz Studios, as well as having toured as a vocalist, including a recent trip to East Timor. She has appeared on sessions for Richie Aljinovic, Emu Records, and Abby Smith, among others and recorded duets with Michael Carpenter and Brad Beard (US). She is a dedicated fan of The Beatles, Patsy Cline, Joni Mitchell, Crowded House, Ani Difranco, and Fleetwood Mac, among many others. ‘Mermaids’ is the first release from her upcoming debut album Something About Ghosts, to be released September 2014.
