December is the debut album for Lawrence Henry, Melbourne singer songwriter and frontman of Melbourne rockers July Days. What started as a "30 songs in 30 days" songwriting challenge and my attempt at a Christmas album, December became a trip down memory lane and a reflection through the long Melbourne lockdowns of 2020/21. A lockdown distraction quickly evolved into something more. "Turning half our house into a recording studio gave me something to focus on. With everything that was going on it was a great time to reflect on what was most meaningful in my life". December touches on what the lead up to Christmas and a Melbourne summer has always meant for me. Morning swims, Williamstown, A covid new years, cricket, football, dusty backyards, travelling with my love, cooking when it's 40 degrees, hometown pubs and playing records. This is my Christmas and Summer, this is my home. I hope you find a little bit of your home in these songs. And if you don't... my home, is your home. Thanks for coming. Produced by Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), December sports the influence of southern Australian sounds such as Paul Kelly and Paul Dempsey to the typically British vocal blends of Jake Bugg and George Harrison which have shaped many of my Christmas days. Gifts were left under the tree in the form of musical talents by some of Australia's finest musicians who helped bring this album to life. Paul Ryan, Anita Quayle, Stuart Byrne, Chris Nuttall, Andy Moroney, Jack Poulson, Fraser Henry, Georgia Henry, Tim Strahan, Hamish Hudson, Sean Connolly.
