Lazy Byrd is a progressive blend of rock, pop & jazz formed by Sydneysiders Ana Mateo, Daniel Dydey, Alexie Pigot and Marko Gal. Their sound brings a fresh take to the musically diverse genre, challenging previous virtuosic traditions with catchy, pop-driven melodies. The Lazy Byrd sound is created through a rich songwriting presence and a passionate do-it-yourself work ethic between the group. Drawing from a coherent jazz background, their current collective of tunes approach a unique take on pop harmony and voice. Much of the band’s sound is driven by guitarist Daniel Dydey’s atmospheric guitar tones, complimented by Ana’s smooth vocals and spacey lyrics. A delicate balance of these elements combined with an engine of progressive and alternative rock result in what can only be described as their signature sound. ​ Influences range from contemporary groups such as Radiohead, Big Wreck and Arc Iris, to the calmer tones of Bill Frisell, Esperanza Spalding and Katie Noonan.
