In 2008 the Years changed their name to les années (the years in French) essentially as a band in France with the same name was creating confusion. Around the same time The Years featured the track ‘Catherine Fields’ on Off the Hip Record’s psych compilation ‘Burn Your Fingers on the Sun’ and this was creating a bit of interest with radio listeners in France which further prompted the selection of les années. Between 2007 and early 2008 the Years played dozens of shows around Sydney with bands such as the Dolly Rocker Movement, Belles will Ring, Richard in your Mind, The Laurels, Sounds Like Sunset, Sister Jane and Cloud Control. In early 2008 The Years took time out from the live scene to focus on recording. The resulting self titled album ‘les années’ was recorded at Billy Thorpe’s old studio in Surry Hills now called New World Studios with up an coming engineer Wendy Tsui. The time consuming experimenting and tracking was done in Steve Thompson’s home studio on old 4 track tape
