Little Incursions is a musical duo formed in Australia by singer-guitarist Peggy van Zalm and bass player/producer Mark Jago. Mark: I was working in London as an editor. On returning to Sydney, I returned to the Post Production company I previously worked for and my first job was working on a video for Perth band Martha's Vineyard. Specifically "More The Same”. Peggy and I met after I put out a callout on social media to get the video to the band. We began collaborating initially with the idea of recording an E.P. of seven songs." Peggy: To be honest, neither of us were really looking for anything new to do musically but it was right timing and we were open and able to explore as we both have our own studios, which is lucky as we live 500km apart. After the first song it was clear that whatever this was, it seemed to have a life of its own. Seventeen songs later it felt like the energetic package of songs had been delivered. We held to the guiding principle that “the song is the hero”. It’s very divergent and experimental in song structures and vocal delivery which was exciting for me. Little Incursions sound is reflective of some of the cinematic, down-tempo and trip hop music we both love. Mark: The wide cinematic nature of the production is a natural extension of our love of wide open spaces. My two earliest memories of intense love were the Australian bush and music. We hope the listener will settle into the grooves contained in the songs and be taken on a sonic journey through many varied landscapes subtly guided by Peggy's rich, emotion laden voice. The videos we'll be making also aim to enhance that experience.
