Recorded in late 2006 early 2007 in a fortified room surrounded by mattresses and disco lights in their unit in Maribyrnong, Ricardo & Nicolas recorded these demo songs (Beautiful Mistake, Sonnet, Dr Zhivago, Pancakes) with their home recording facilities, a cask of wine and a few slabs of beer. The songs were inspired by romantic comedies from the eighties, namely any movie starring John Cusack, hence the name of the demo album: I Heart Cusack; an ode to that brief, but passionate love affair.
