Perth 5 piece Louis and the Honkytonk have wasted no time after the release of their self titled, hand decorated debut album with the release of a new standalone single This River. Initially recorded live to cassette tape (inspired by an Elliott Smith tribute night the band curated), This River wears a smooth low fi coat like a 70’s photograph, features soaring slide guitar, chunky drumbeats and crunchy vocals. "The song was inspired by abrupt changes in culture in the overgrown country town known as Perth, and the parochialism that's so easy to catch from living in the suburbs," said lead singer Leigh Gardiner. "Sometimes geographical loyalties can change your personality, and people can grow apart both literally and figuratively." The song was released at a DIY venue in 78 Records on limited edition lino printed sleeves. This is on the back of playing to a massive crowd supporting US darlings Okkervil River as part of the Perth International Arts Festival.
