What happens when an ex-diplomat, a schizophrenic economist, a lonesome sailor and a bass guitaress, all full of music but with different influences and ideals, abandon their old lives and get together in a smoky cellar in the middle of Vienna in late 2007 and early 2008? The result is an album called "Wasted Life/Hope". Paying tribute to the band’s name – Malaxe is French for “ merge & blend” – the album features different musical styles with dirty trip hop beats, mind wrapping atmospheres, gentle guitar melodies, piercing bass lines and melancholic vocals...or as somebody once remarked: picture Nick Cave teaming up with Massive Attack while Radiohead is playing guitars and Tom Waits is mixing the drinks.
