Space & Time is the debut solo album from UK born, Sydney based drummer/vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Malcolm Forest Wakeford, an eclectic collection of original indie pop/blues rock songs with some electronic sounds and retro grooves. Malcolm has performed as drummer/singer with international artists including Tommy Emmanuel and Dr John and has toured four times with the inimitable guitarist Albert Lee including performing at Tamworth Country Music Festival. As a young drummer touring with iconic folk/country influenced bands Redgum and The Flying Emus, and later performing with and writing for Little River Band, Malcolm gained an appreciation of the vastness of the Australian landscape, the harshness of the environment and the importance of connections over distance. Changing careers to become a solo artist was a bold move which allowed Malcolm to write songs he wanted to hear. Playing all the instruments on the album and producing gave him the freedom to express his strong sense of social justice and desire for a better future for all as well as exploring the intimate connections between people. The album is unified by universal sentiments of love and a desire for freedom but also explores concern for the planet, notably in songs like “Say Goodbye”, exploring the plight of climate refugees, “Waiting for the Rain”. Imbalance of power is examined in “Power In Your Hands” and “Whose World” in a global sense, but also personally, as in “Got to Go”. Although launched just prior to the pandemic, isolation and the meaning of proximity is considered in “So Close”, “Someone Special” and the first single “Closer”. Recorded and mixed by Malcolm in Sydney, the album was mastered in New Jersey by Greg Calbi at world famous Sterling Sound.
