Manic Sleeper Cell formed in winter 2009 after bass player Damian met drummer Ritchie in the supermarket. “We started talking at the magazine section; I think Ritchie was knee deep in Australian Quilting magazine. I was reading Boars and Babes.” Initially they jammed on ideas but from their first session all band members realised “there was something special going on musically between us”. Given the musical backgrounds of each member – Matt (guitar / vocals) and Ritchie (drums) had played in Dark Seed and Master Jargo; Devon (bass / vocals) had played in Drill and Ortizmo – its was not long before the bedroom riffs, fresh from the backburner, had mutated into a set of strikingly pungent originals. After a few name changes and performing at Armidale’s premier Alternate live music venue The Armidale Club, Manic Sleeper Cell have defiantly made a mark on the local live music scene.
