Edit history

Marasa is a three piece band formed in a removed outpost of Sydney's Northern Beaches, blending ocean inspired psychedelia with a dreamy, nostalgic sound. Emerging in 2021 during the lockdown, the band ~ comprising Dave Williams, Ryan Thomas, and Gab Portocarrero ~ began as a creative escape from the stillness of life. Their early improvisations soon developed into a full musical project, with the members living together and deepening both their musical and personal connections. By late 2021, the band transformed their home into a makeshift studio and, with the help of engineer Lee McDonald, recorded their debut album live to tape. Drawing influences from spiritual jazz, German Kosmische Musik, ‘60s surf rock, and vintage psychedelia, Marasa’s single Moonrise is the second release off the upcoming self-titled debut which evokes themes of wonder, loss, and solitude. The album’s dreamy, immersive quality makes it perfect for moments of reflection, nature, or time spent with loved ones.
