Mark Shay was born in the O.C. of California, USA before his parents moved the family, at first, to N.Z. and later to Australia. Raised with a wide variety of musical influences from Dolly Parton to Elvis to Mozart, he soon found himself in piano lessons learning classical music at an early age. With such a strong surrounding of Rock ’n’ Roll and Country Music, Mark Shay was soon looking for a musical identity of his own which he found in the likes of Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, and Prince to name a few. At the age of 11 he stumbled onto a video clip of a young Glam Band named Poison with the song “Talk Dirty To Me” and his fascination with the humble guitar began. Mark Shay spent the next few years teaching himself how to play the guitar and from the age of 15 even began to teach others how to play.
