Masterthief are a relatively new alternative/indie/rock band that began to play regularly around Adelaide in late 2006. Although they have only been performing for a short period of time, the band’s roots are grounded in a song-writing partnership between Jon Low and James Holmes that was conceived in high school and has spanned around 7 years. The band is an idea that has grown and taken shape over a long period of time; the result is a fresh new group with a mature sound and a quality list of songs. All members of the band come from a background of studying and playing music from a young age, particularly jazz (Tom Bland [bass] and Josh Baldwin [drums] are both Jazz performance graduates of the Adelaide Conservatorium). As a result, the boys consider influences such as Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheney to be as important as the more obvious ones such as Kashmir, Death Cab for Cutie, Something for Kate and Sigur Ros.
