Matt's first musical experience, at age five, was being shown "Smoke on the Water" by his dad Peter who was a skilled musician, playing with and supporting iconic Aussie acts like Ice House and Dragon. Thoroughly hooked on guitar, and eager to learn, Matt started guitar lessons at age thirteen. His guitar teacher Heath Cave from Caloundra instantly saw Matt's potential. Matt found he gained most from self-taught guitar licks, solos and riffs, which later he incorporated in full songs and original compositions. In 2003, at age fourteen, Matt joined a gigging cover band called "Blues Arcane". He gained valuable experience, performing every weekend. As a fourteen year old earning $100 a gig, playing in a band with people three times his age, it wasn't long before he decided to cruise the town for musos that were, let's say, more suited to his age group and musical tastes. There's nothing like that reassurance that the people in your band are going to make it to the end of the gig.
