I'm a singer, songwriter, model and story writer who grew up in Canberra, Australia. I've spent much of my life feeling as though I needed a back up plan to make life work - and that doing what I love couldn't provide me a life. But I've realised the best part of life is doing what you love - even if nothing comes from it. The reward is in doing it. I grew up with very religious parents, and coming out was hugely difficult for me. I tried doing that at 17, but was estranged from my parents for about 4 months. In that time, I was raped, and moved back home, completely unable to cope with what I had experienced. For me it felt like it validated my parents thoughts about gay people. I tried to suppress myself for 8 years, and got married in the process. After my now ex-wife turned violent, I left as soon as I could get the money together to.
