Conceived in the echo chambers of Canada’s motel bathrooms, Meres hails from northern Tasmania/Lutruwita. The punk-adjacent four-piece blends reverberating vocals, brooding dissonance, and visceral sharpness into a sound that sits between weirdo-scary-pop-rock, snack-rock, and 90s grunge with teeth. Influences include Speedy Ortiz, Bad History Month, and Adalita. Introspective, cynical, and uncomfortably honest, Meres explores themes of dissidence, obscurity, and the mundane. They've landed AMRAP chart placements, national airplay, and multiple grants, including the 2023 Nick Balcombe Foundation “Live Your Dream” Grant. Frontperson Mary Shannon has been a three-time Tasmanian nominee for “Live Voice of the Year” at the National Live Music Awards. Their long-awaited debut album WORRIED SICK arrives April 2025, produced by Anna Laverty, engineered by Ben Simms (A. Swayze & the Ghosts), and mixed by Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, The Pixies).
