Mighty Morfin, real name Derek Mboya, was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. He was raised on Jazz, soul, rock, hip-hop, and early house/dance records. As a child, his mother introduced him to artists like the Beastie Boys, Jamiroquai, Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross. Daft punk was a huge influence as this was the first time he heard old funk records being turned into dance tracks. In 2007, he moved to Australia to study. He released a free House EP called Future/Past under the moniker “Sølsta” and then took a hiatus in order to finish his university courses. In December 2014, he rebranded as “Mighty Morfin” and has been pursuing a new sound ever since. You can hear it in all of his productions. Very atmospheric and melodic with layered textures. Every single track he has produced has a story and meaning behind it.
