Mike started playing the guitar when he was 11. During high school he started to play in several cover bands and started to write his own music. He recorded his first CD when he was 16 with his band, Gasquaa. He studied music at Leederville Tafe for 2 years and for the next few years he played in a funk trio called Phlegm Head recording another EP entitled Multinova. At this point he started to be influenced by people like Jeff Buckley and also by world music artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The next part of Mike’s life was dedicated to travel. He left Australia and travelled and played around Europe, the US and Canada. He got addicted to snowboarding and was inspired by the experience of seeing new things and experiencing different cultures. He lived in Italy for a year from 2006 - 2007 and on his return to Perth, teamed up with bassist Aaron Campbell and drummer Steve Brooks to Form Mike Kaye and the Mosaics. The name was chosen as the band play in several different styles
