Mike Slade started rapping at age 15. He entered battle rapping competitions from 2004-2007, winning around 17 of 20 battles and winning the "Word War" of 2006. During this time he was MC for ‘Mechanism’, a 6 piece live Hiphop/funk band who rocked shows around Perth for 2 years, getting to the state semi-finals of the 2005 National Band Competition . After the band ended, Slade took time away from rapping, returned to studies and finished his Psychology/Philosophy degree in 2012. For the last 4 years, while also performing in the band ‘Le Mezz’, Slade has been in the studio crafting together his upcoming solo album ‘Day To Day Sway’. Playing instruments, writing and performing lyrics, and co-producing with Lucas Walker, the songs are a mixture of boom bap beats with Jazzy/emotive/funky melodies, creating a phat yet smooth and classy sound. Slade's lyrics are captivating and meaningful, with tight rhythmical flow and clear elocution on every word spoken.
