Minus Marcus is keyboardist Felix Bornholdt, drummer Holly Conner, guitarist Blain Cunneen, and bassist Josh Spolc – indie rock and pop musicians that feature as members of Lime Cordiale, Julia Jacklin, CLEWS and Lupa J. After bonding over producers Floating Points, Jon Hopkins, and live-electronic pioneers NERVE and Caribou, it was a natural step for the four musicians to collaborate. The band uses extensive instrumental improvisations as the basis for their music. Tracks are created through a process of self-sampling where group improvisations are cut up, digitally manipulated, effected and then overlaid with layers of synthesisers, drum machines, and ambient textures. Minus Marcus inhabits the space between tight, programmed dance music and the unscripted, unpredictable and human.
