Misty Lanes is the solo project of Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer, Steven W. Schouten. Launched in 2017 with his self-titled album, Misty Lanes is known for its reverberating guitars, punchy drums, dreamy organ melodies, and delicate vocals, reminiscent of late 1960s bands like The 13th Floor Elevators and The Kinks. His upcoming album, Colourless Green Ideas, was inspired by Noam Chomsky’s phrase, sparking a reflection on “art for art’s sake.” The album explores a wide range of sounds—from psychedelic rock to baroque pop—crafted over several years in home studios and mixed in 2022. Schouten embraces the raw, "colourless green" essence of initial demos, elevating his production while staying true to the spirit of the 1960s icons like Brian Wilson and The Kinks.
