Monkey Marc is a Melbourne music producer making hip hop, reggae and electronic music. Monkey Marc’s trailblazing activist background saw him spending years roaming the Australian desert as a political activist and running a solar-powered sound system (Labrats Solar Sound System) at the frontline of blockades and protests around Australia. He built a solar-powered recording studio in a repurposed shipping container 10 years ago and produces music with zero carbon emissions. Monkey Marc has a broad catalogue of releases on labels including Ninja Tune/Big Dada (UK), Jahtari (Germany), Renegade Masters (UK), Elefant Traks and Omelette Records. He has worked in indigenous communities for over 15 years and co-produced indigenous women’s electronic music album Kardajala Kirridarra. Monkey Marc’s music brings together an obsession with analog synthesisers, handcrafted drum samples and heavyweight bass with a passion for making music with a message. He won The Age Music Victoria award for Best Reggae and Dancehall Act in 2018. Monkey says, “I believe in the power of music to educate, inspire and change people’s perspectives”. He is releasing his second LP, Vital Sound, in 2020.
