Moonlight five Is a dark, brooding and gritty band based north of the Harbour in Sydney. With influences as diverse as Coltrane, sixties soundtrack music, Howling Wolf, Nina Simone to the the angular sounds of post punk. The band features musicians including a Principal Player in classical ensembles in Budapest and Paris, and others who have played in critically-acclaimed industrial punk bands. Members of Moonlight Five range from a surfer, to a literary figure, a music producer, a music programme designer to a trade unionist. A band of diverse tastes and backgrounds have created a sound that is unique and of our times it’s like folk Blues on steroids, yet haunting and tough. Mixed by John Cobbin and mastered by legendary sound engineer Mile Stavrou previously of London’s Air studios. The debut single Lockdown Blues is beginning to receive to airplay on influential radio shows in Sydney and, as linguist and academic Cliff Bernard (previously of Boston University) wrote, “This little piece of ominous menace, the beat at full slow stretch like a shuffling platoon of undead through foggy city streets through 3D goggles…” Lockdown Blues is to be featured on a compilation album on the English label Aurora Records. Their second single, Listening to Gospel Music on the Radio gained airplay across the world. The band continue to showcase their musicianship with their 3rd followup single, I just want to be me. This is perhaps the most intricate and impressive arrangement to date. Orchestral flourishes punctuate the song and the French monologue in the track's latter half is a brilliant addition. Lookout for a six track mini album in 2023. The band features: • Edwin Garland – vocals and guitar • John Cobbin - guitar and bass • Elizabeth Lim - bass clarinet • Digby Richards – piano and organ • Jim O Sullivan – drums
