Mr. Sophistication are a five-piece act who have been doing the rounds for a year or two now, cutting their teeth in the dive bar live Melbourne music scene. Sourcing their influences from mood creating artists such as The Velvet Underground, Robert Wyatt and Miles Davis, the result is a sound based in lo-fi guitar driven rock, yet adventurous in scope, with heavy flirtations from styles as diverse as post-punk, afro-beat, funk and ambient music. At the heart of the music is a desire to explore the concerns, tribulations and unpredictability of life in this savage year of our lord, 2020. Though the lyrics are personal, they speak to the collective, exploring themes thought to have been expelled from the cultural lexicon during the cosmopolitan 1990s (nationalism, xenophobia… nuclear war).
