mumdeathcake operates in the space where fuzzy indie rock meets dreamy bedroom-produced soundscapes. Leaning into raw tones, blown-out textures, and a deliberately unpolished approach, the Naarm/Melbourne-based solo project of Darcy Hemingway prioritizes feel and immediacy over refinement. There’s a casual confidence to the sound—unforced, instinctive, honest, and rooted in grunge tradition. The project is intended to be a vessel for introspection and personal growth, tackling issues close to home, and promoting self-acceptance. mumdeathcake’s new EP ‘it’s not a race’ follows his first two EPs, ‘The Big Slow’ and ‘Marigold,’ which were featured by Happy Mag & Scenestr, and received airplay across community radio (SYN.FM, 3CR, 7EDG, and Radio Adelaide).
